Everton have enjoyed a respectable first campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, even if it has not quite reached spectacular heights.
After a slow start to the season, David Moyes’ side have steadily improved and still head into the final game of the campaign with a top-half finish firmly within reach.
One issue has consistently held the Toffees back, however — a lack of a truly clinical centre-forward.
Beto has shown signs of major improvement over the course of the season, while Thierno Barry has contributed important moments, but neither striker has managed to hit double figures in the Premier League. As a result, strengthening the attack is expected to be one of Everton’s main priorities this summer.
Now, attention appears to have turned toward a rising Premier League striker who has impressed elsewhere this term.
Everton Keen on Will Osula
Everton are reportedly among the clubs interested in Newcastle United striker Will Osula ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at St James’ Park, scoring seven Premier League goals despite only establishing himself as a regular starter during the second half of the season.
Osula, who has been described as a player with “huge potential” by Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, has attracted growing attention thanks to his pace, physicality and eye for goal, with several clubs in England and Germany now monitoring his situation.
According to The i paper, Everton are long-term admirers of the Danish forward and view him as a player capable of adding a different dimension to Moyes’ attack next season.
The Newcastle striker’s impressive goals-per-minute record has only strengthened interest, particularly given his age and potential for further development.
Any deal, however, is unlikely to come cheaply. Newcastle reportedly value Osula highly after his strong finish to the season, especially with the club now looking to build around younger players capable of developing into long-term starters.
For Everton, though, the move would make sense. The Toffees badly need greater firepower if they are to push toward the European places next season, and Osula’s profile looks well suited to the intensity and direct style Moyes typically demands from his forwards.
