Everton Scouting Classy £5M European Veteren

It’s a funny old world isn’t it? We can’t mention what footballers get up to in their private lives, but if they decide to move clubs we’re all over it like a rash. Here at the Tavern, we can’t dish the dirt on who’s been doing what to whom (we simply haven’t got enough lawyers!) but we can pass the time with little bits of ‘filler’ like this little nugget of transfer gossip from Talksport.

Everton manager David Moyes is eager to recruit in the summer, even if he has to sell players to do it. So far he’s been linked with the likes of Wigan’s Hugo Radallega, but it’s a move for a player at the less glamorous end of the pitch that currently has Evertonian tongues wagging.

The Toffee’s have been linked with a summer move for Stuttgart’s Matthieu Delpierre. The 29 year old has been with the German club for the last 9 seasons, after moving there on a free from Lille in 2004. So far, the Frenchman has made 15 starts for Stuttgart, but has suffered some injury problems in recent months. He’s managed to recover quickly however, and his recent good form has put Everton on high alert.

It’s likely that Delpierre could cost around £5 million, at least that’s the figure being suggested in some of the forums I’ve visited. That wouldn’t be a bad bit of business really for Everton, who could certainly afford that figure. Everton are in the enviable position of having quite a strong back four already, with Phil Jagielka, Slyvain Distin and Leighton Baines in particular all having excellent seasons. Already some greedy eyes are starting to turn to Baines in particular, as the season comes to an end.

Will Moyes bid for Delpierre? I don’t know.
