The Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern cannot believe their luck about how good their squad is at the moment.
It’s a young and hungry side that presses the opposition into submission as Mauricio Pochettino conducts them from the sidelines in an orchestra of fine attacking and defensive movements.
The White Hart Lane crowd are naturally loving every minute but it has not always been like that as our Spurs fans will shudder when the remember.
The north London club have seen some truly awful players grace, for want of a much better word, the White Hart Lane pitch, and our landlord remembers them all too well.
When looking back upon some of the flops to have turned out on Hotspur Way over recent years, even the money wasted in the wake of Gareth Bale’s seismic departure in 2013 doesn’t look as bad.
Here, then, are four players who never made it for Spurs…
Mido
What a truly frustrating footballer this man was.
He talked a good game and at times looked like a classy striker and then at other times the grass on the pitch at White Hart Lane would erode faster than he moved.
The Egyptian eventually got on the nerves of every Spurs fan who had to watch him annoy them week in week out and he soon left for a career of mediocrity.
Helder Postiga
The worst striker to ever play for Spurs? He’s certainly up there.
Glenn Hoddle was meant to be a good judge of players but this just about summed up how bad things got under his management with the Portuguese being an utter aberration.
It’d be interesting to see if anyone still has a Postiga shirt from his time at the club and hasn’t thrown it because that would surely be a rare, rare item.
Roberto Soldado
You have to feel for Soldado because he came to the Tottenham set-up on the back of a very successful time in Spain, but simply could not adapt to the Premier League.
He tried incredibly hard to make it work as did the rest of his team-mates but it just wouldn’t come off.
Eventually, it made sense for him to move on and that is what he duly did as he returned to La Liga.
Andy Reid
Andy Reid never did cut it at Premier League level and certainly didn’t with Tottenham.
The winger would have a late flourish with Sunderland in the top division that was half-decent but for Spurs though simply couldn’t his best level often enough.
He left the club without many people missing him and, to be frank, it’s pretty easy to forget that he even played for the Lilywhites at all.
