“Keep an eye on…”: Frank Lampard “would like to take” Chelsea youngster to Coventry City

Frank Lampard has developed a habit of bringing Chelsea connections with him throughout his managerial career.

During his time at Derby County, the former Blues midfielder handed loans to Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori, while he also reunited with ex-Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole during his spell in charge of the club.

Now, as Coventry City boss, Lampard could once again look towards Stamford Bridge for reinforcements before the transfer window shuts.

Lampard Wants to Sign Josh Acheampong

Coventry City are keeping tabs on Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong, with Frank Lampard keen to explore a potential move for the highly rated defender, according to talkSPORT.

Chelsea are understood to have no desire to sell the 20-year-old, who remains highly regarded by the club’s hierarchy. However, the need for regular first-team football could open the door to a temporary move.

Acheampong’s versatility makes him an attractive option, having shown he can operate both in defence and midfield. A loan could therefore provide valuable senior experience without Chelsea giving up on his long-term development.

talkSPORT chief football correspondent Alex Crook believes the situation is one worth monitoring, suggesting Lampard could have a genuine chance of bringing the youngster to the CBS Arena.

“Keep an eye on Josh Acheampong. He’s a player that Frank Lampard would like to take to Coventry,” Crook said on The Window.

He added that “there is a possibility that Chelsea might be willing to do that deal.”

For Lampard, another temporary reunion with a Chelsea player could be an ideal way to strengthen his Coventry squad while giving Acheampong the regular football he needs.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are understood to be interested in signing AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara.
