Liverpool have said goodbye to a number of iconic figures in recent years, marking the end of a hugely successful era under Jürgen Klopp.
From Roberto Firmino and Fabinho to Jordan Henderson and James Milner, several key contributors to their Premier League and Champions League triumphs have moved on — alongside the legendary manager himself.
Both Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson will also leave Anfield this summer.
Each departure has chipped away at a side that once dominated English and European football, and now, one more familiar name from that golden period could be set for a surprise return to the Premier League.
Wijnaldum Set for Premier League Return
Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is targeting a return to the Premier League this summer as his contract in Saudi Arabia nears its end, according to Sky Sports.
The Dutchman — once described as “brilliant” by Klopp — has no intention of retiring and believes he can still perform at a high level. Currently with Al Ettifaq, he has enjoyed an impressive campaign, contributing 14 goals and six assists, underlining that he remains an effective presence in midfield.
Wijnaldum is understood to favour a move back to England, where he previously thrived during a five-year spell at Liverpool.
During his time at Anfield, he made 237 appearances and played a crucial role in the club’s Premier League and Champions League successes before departing for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
After three seasons away from Europe’s top leagues, the 35-year-old is now weighing up his next step, with a Premier League return firmly on the agenda. While no final decision has been made, interest is expected to grow as the transfer window approaches.
