Harry Redknapp is never going to be left short of players, he is always on the look out for a bargain. His scouting team probably get through more air miles than we get through pint glasses here in the Tavern.
Recently we have brought you ridiculous stories from our friends in the media suggesting that ‘Arry is going to have bids on the table for practically his whole squad except for Jermaine Jenas this Summer….noone would want Jenas.
Well on the off chance that it gets a bit nippy down in Hell and the lava begins to cool, the Tottenham boss is on the lookout for new talent to bolster his squad in case he does lose some of his star performers. Our friends at Talksport are reporting today that Redknapp has sent his scouts to watch 22 year old Ivan Perisic play in Belgium.
Perisic who was born and raised in Croatia, began his career playing for Sochaux in France after being linked with moves to clubs such as PSV, Hamburg and Ajax. The skillful midfielder soon proved himself to be extremely useful during a loan spell with Belgian side Roeselare, and it was during this period that he caught the attention of Club Brugges, who signed the player in August 2009 for the tiny figure of £216,000.
The midfielder who can play on either wing, behind a striker, but ideally in an attacking midfield role is also known as a bit of a set piece specialist. He has notched up 14 goals already this season in just 25 games, and it now appears that the player is soon to be on the move again to a bigger club and a new challenge.
The club have confirmed that they are ready to listen to offers for the player, a club insider is quoted as saying:
“We are ready to negotiate a move in June.”.
Not exactly a glittering and exciting quote, we will bring you more exciting quotes in the future but at least it is to the point and it doesn’t dance around the houses! Tottenham are being joined by Lille and Monaco in watching the player and it is believed that bids from all three clubs could be tabled this Summer.
Spurs are believed to be making an initial bid of around £6million, and it would seem likely that the competition from Ligue 1 will find it difficult to compete with the financial muscle of the Premiership giants, thus putting the White Hart Lane club at the front of the pack for the Croatian midfielder.
Perisic would be a good addition to the Spurs squad, however I am still not sure they really need this signing. A team that are improving, I don’t see many big players exciting the club this Summer so why they would need an extra body in midfield I am unsure. Call me skeptical but I don’t see this one as overly likely, but I’ve been wrong before!
