Quoted by Southampton’s official website, Claude Puel has said that he was not surprised by the quality with which Sofiane Boufal scored his first goal for the club.
It was a strike that left our resident Saints fans very happy indeed.
The Moroccan has not featured much for the south coast club since joining in the summer due to injury issues, but he came on in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the weekend and found the net against Sunderland last night in the EFL Cup.
It was a fine swirling effort from the edge of the box to send the Saints into the last eight and a game against Arsenal but Puel said that is what Boufal is all about.
“For me, it’s not a surprise to see his goal because I know Sofiane”, said the Frenchman.
”His goal is fantastic, of course, and it was very important for the squad because if we had to play 30 minutes in extra time it would have been very hard for us.”
The Saints have been in good form in recent weeks and host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon who were knocked out of the EFL Cup away at West Ham last night.
Finally, those at St. Mary’s have a player seemingly able to change games at the drop of a hat, with the former Lille man looking like cult-hero material already.
