Leeds got back to winning ways on Saturday as Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Bristol City 2-0 in what was a game they simply had to win following their 4-1 loss to West Brom before the international break.
Against West Brom, Bielsa’s side were completely outplayed and with Stuart Dallas playing out of position, the Yorkshire side didn’t stand a chance of halting The Baggies’ second-half onslaught.
While Dallas was highlighted for his poor performance, his poor showing should be married with the fact that he was out of position. However, in terms of Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s performance, the young goalkeeper had a poor game and unfortunately for him, it wasn’t his first.
The Thorp Arch academy graduate broke into the first-team last season and played the final 11 games of the season. This year Bielsa has kept him in the first-team and he has played 17 games in the league although he did miss their most recent game at the weekend due to injury.
While he is a young goalkeeper, for a side that is trying to win the league in what is an incredibly competitive league, Bielsa can’t afford to allow the youngster to keep making crucial mistakes.
Indeed, ahead of the game, Bielsa admitted that he would’ve played Jamal Blackman ahead of the 22-year-old if Blackman had not picked up an injury for the under-23 side in midweek.
For most of the season, Leeds have been brilliant and within that run of form, Peacock-Farrell’s mistakes have often been overlooked. However, when looking at the club as a whole, he’s been the one main weak link and Bielsa will and should strengthen the position in January.
