Leeds have long been known for having one of the best academies in England and this season under Bielsa, the pathway of academy players to the first-team has continued.
Although Bielsa does have an eye for youth, the injury crisis that has ravaged his squad and the Argentine has been forced to dip into the youth teams to find players to fill places left by injuries.
Jamie Shackleton has established himself in the first-team squad now while other academy players, Jack Clarke, Ryan Edmondson and most recently Kamil Miazek, Aapo Halme, William Huffer and Leif Davis have been called into the side.
Davis has been on the bench for the last two games in the league and with the injury crisis, Bielsa is having at the moment, he could be an essential player.
The Breakdown
Over the summer, Leeds signed the fullback from Morecambe on a three-year contract. The 18-year-old fullback had impressed at youth level for the Shrimps but had never made a first-team appearance for the League Two side.
Since he joined the club, he has been a consistent performer for the under-23 side as he has played as a left-back and as part of a back three for Carlo Corberan’s side.
As it stands, Luke Ayling is out with an injury, while Gaetano Berardi has also been out for the last few games. Barry Douglas also has also missed time in the squad which has left Bielsa with Tom Pearce as the only out and out left-back in the squad. Although Davis is inexperienced and young, he could be invaluable to Bielsa as the season goes ahead, especially considering Bielsa’s demanding style of play.
