Newly promoted Middlesbrough have had a pretty tidy start to the Premier League campaign and their fans here in the Tavern seem pretty happy with how things are going!
Aitor Karanka had a tough start to life in the Premier League, but thanks to the likes of Alvaro Negredo, Boro have begun to pick up some really decent results and sit 14th going into the New Year.
But with the Premier League as competitive as ever, it’s important Boro don’t let off the pace, especially with a tough run of fixtures on the horizon in January.
As with all teams in the division right now, talk here in the pub has turned to potential transfer targets and the sort of players Karanka should be looking to bring in to better his side’s league position.
So armed with some cracking suggestions from our Boro-mad locals, here’s 3 January transfer targets Middlesbrough should be looking to bring in next month…
Gerard Deulofeu
He’s a man that is seriously out-of-favour down at Goodison Park and we think Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu would make a cracking addition to this Middlesbrough squad.
The Spanish wing wizard is blessed with pace, skill and guile and whilst Boro have some fantastic options on the flank, Deulofeu would add a real dimension of quality to Karanka’s squad.
Boro struggled to contain him in their Capital One Cup quarter-final defeat last season so they know the damage he can do.
Neven Subotic
Dortmund defender Neven Subotic is on his way back from a serious rib injury and has been getting some play-time for Borussia’s U23 side in recent weeks.
But it’s difficult to see him dislodging some of the first-team regulars at the Westfalenstadion and we think he’d make a good addition to Boro’s side, who will be looking to finish as far up the table as possible.
He’s an experienced individual both for club and country and the buzz here in the Tavern amongst the Boro fans seems to indicate they’d welcome a man that almost signed for them this summer.
Leonardo Ulloa
He’s somewhat of an outcast at Leicester City these days and it’s tough to see Leonardo Ulloa breaking into the Foxes first-team anytime soon.
The former Brighton man played an important role in the title win last season, coming on from the bench to give his team a boost in the final minutes of games.
But thanks to the signings of Ahmed Musa and Islam Slimani, he’s even further down the pecking order this time round and we think he’d make a cracking addition to the Boro squad.
