Aston Villa: Fans flock to wish Jota the best following surprise contract termination

Jota in action for Villa during pre-season

Aston Villa fans have been reacting in their masses to the news that winger Jota left the club on Saturday after his contract was terminated.

It’s not something that the Villa Park faithful were expecting by any means, but the Spaniard is now a free agent despite having a year left on his contract.

Jota was the first player to join Villa after their promotion back to the Premier League before the start of the 2019/20 campaign from rivals Birmingham City, with Gary Gardner going in the other direction, as per BBC Sport.

The 29-year-old made two outings in the Carabao Cup this season, with his final game for the Villains being their 1-0 defeat to Stoke City in mid-week.

The club’s official website made the announcement under the radar, which was not broadcast on any of their social media networks, for some reason. They thanked Jota for his services to the club, recognising the 16 outings that he made, scoring just the one goal.

With this in mind, there was an element of disappointment in the air surrounding his surprise departure from the club, with Villa fans making their feelings clear on social media.

Here are some of those comments from Villa fans:

Best of luck to Jota, thought he was unfortunate not to get more opportunities at times.
Fantastic assist for Wesley to get his first goal.

It looked promising that preseason, wish him all the best!

Good luck to him, not cut out for the premier league.

This is a real shame – always had time for Jota

There are many who should go before him! But good luck

Actually disappointed he’s gone. Think he deserved more chances than he got, maybe he didnt want to be a sub 🤷‍♂️
