Our Middlesbrough fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling confident over staying up this season but are intrigued by Aitor Karanka’s comments over the potential Rudy Gestede deal, (via Gazettelive.)
An earlier report by the outlet had suggested that the Aston Villa man looked set to be Boro’s first signing of the January window but when asked about the move in his latest pre-match press conference, Karanka was coy.
The Spanish boss has impressed with the way he’s handled his first season in the Premier League as a manager so far and in that style, he wouldn’t be forced into giving an answer over the purported deal.
He said:
“The transfer market? We have people working well behind the scenes. I just have Man United in my head and I am trying to prepare my team for that.”
It remains to be seen whether or not the Gestede deal actually goes through, then, as Boro travel to Manchester United this weekend to play at Old Trafford.
Karanka will have his work cut out against Jose Mourinho’s men as they are flying at the moment but our landlord thinks results against those around them are going to be more important than this one.
Then, if they can sign Gestede and a couple of others, too, they should be able to stay up this year.
