West Ham have been hit by the news that Klaas Jan Huntelaar is not for sale. The Hammers’ owners had hoped to tempt the Dutchman with a large wage package but AC Milan have reiterated their desire to keep the hit man, The Sun reports.
Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton were also chasing Huntelaar, who has struggled for game time at the San Siro since his move there in the summer, but Milan’s vice-president Adriano Galliani believes it is only a matter of time before the striker finds his feet.
He said: “I reiterate that Huntelaar will not be transferred. He needs to be calm and wait for the chances he gets.
“Milan will not sell him. I’ve said it for some time but no one seems to believe me.”
This will be seen as another setback for West Ham’s new owners David Gold and David Sullivan, who have also missed out on Eidur Gudjohnsen in the last couple of days.
Last week Gold told The Sun, when asked about Huntelaar: “He’s a top player and it’s important to get a striker in before the window slams shut.
“We might have to pay between £70,000-£100,000 a week for a short loan period for the right person.”
The Dutch attacker, who has scored 14 goals in just 29 international appearances, has only made 12 outings for his Serie A side this year, netting just three times in the process.
