Following an early exit in the FA Cup last weekend in the hands of Leicester City, Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been a gloomy bunch.
The punters are angrily demanding that Everton release funds for Ronald Koeman to spend in the January transfer window, and they’re suggesting that the Dutch boss keeps an eye on the African Cup of Nations.
Kicking off next week, the AFCON will see some of Africa’s prized talents completing on the world stage, and there’s many punters by the bar who believe there is plenty of players on show that can improve Everton’s ranks.
In fact, they’ve scribbled some names down on a napkin that they feel would be tremendous additions to Everton’s squad, and are hoping to see Ronald Koeman keep tabs on this trio during this month’s international tournament….
Khama Billiat
The 26-year-old Zimbabwe attacking midfielder has been identified by many as one to keep tabs on during this month’s African Cup of Nations, especially as he’s currently playing in South Africa and wouldn’t be too expensive.
Whilst he lacks experience in European football, he could provide a decent boost to Everton’s midfield and may end up being a potential bargain.
They will also find themselves not going toe-to-toe with Europe’s elite, which increases their chances of completing a deal.
Johann Obiang
23-year-old Johann Obiang has made an impression in French football with Chateauroux, making 92 league appearances from the age 19 before being snapped-up by Troyes this summer. Plying his trade in the second-division of French football, he wouldn’t be too expensive.
Whilst he may be seen as a risk, the fact he’s already earned 13 appearances for his national side shows his ability. The AFCON could be his stepping-stone to bigger things and he’d present a great option for Everton in defence.
Nicolas Nkoulou
Another defender Everton need to keep tabs on this month, and one that would improve the first-team immediately, is Lyon’s Nicolas Nkoulou- who will add to his 68 caps for Cameroon in this month’s international tournament.
Excelling with Marseille before moving to Lyon on a free transfer last summer, Nkoulou has managed just five Ligue 1 appearances with his new side. With Everton’s defence looking shaky, the arrival of Nkoulou would provide a timely boost.
