Leeds have been heavily linked with a move for Red Bull Leipzig star Jean-Kevin Augustin, and The Athletic’s Phil Hay has provided an update on the move on Saturday.
With no match for the Whites this weekend, Leeds fans will have to get their fill of all things Elland Road from another source – transfer rumours. After a month of yearning for a striker signing, it seems fans may finally have something to get excited about, as the club are reportedly in talks to sign Augustin.
The skilful forward has spent the current campaign on loan from Leipzig at Monaco, where he has bagged one goal and two assists in limited playing time. According to L’Equipe, via GFFN, the 22 year-old has decided he wants to join Leeds on loan until the end of the season, and Hay has provided an update on the move.
On Augustin, yet to hear if a deal’s been done but he wants to come and his agent has been working on getting him out of Monaco. Not getting games there. Mutual admiration between Bielsa and Augustin. @TheAthleticUK

The promise of ‘mutual admiration’ between the player and Marcelo Bielsa is sure to excite Leeds fans, and if he can reproduced the type of potential he showed in the 2017/18 season he could definitely be an upgrade on Eddie Nketiah, who left earlier this month.
Per Whoscored, Augustin scored nine times and provided five assists in the Bundesliga that season, an extremely impressive hit rate in just 1,273 minutes of action. That’s a goal every 141 minutes, and to put that into perspective, Patrick Bamford has managed ten goals in 2,096 minutes this season, or one every 210 minutes.
Whether or not Augustin can get back on track after a difficult loan spell in France remains to be seen, but if he’s good enough to have the ‘admiration’ of Bielsa then he is surely good enough to get fans off their seats and excited for the remainder of the campaign.
Leeds fans, do you think Augustin would be a good signing? Join the discussion in the comments below…
