Leeds United: Jean-Kevin Augustin tipped to set Championship on fire

Football Insider have claimed that Leeds United fans could see a completely different version of striker Jean-Kevin Augustin when the season resumes.

The 22-year-old arrived at Elland Road in the January transfer window on a loan deal which includes a permanent option.

Despite a wave of excitement after his signing, the Frenchman has struggled to make an impact on English soil, failing to score in a limited three appearances.

According to the report, Augustin has undergone a complete transformation, working hard on his fitness and football during the two-month break from the game due to the pandemic.

That is likely to be music to the ears of Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, who has been keen to find a back-up/different option to Patrick Bamford.

Leeds, who sit top of the Championship table as things stand are on the verge of an automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Players in the Championship have been given the green light to return to training as of next week ahead of a potential return to football.

Augustin certainly has talent, as proven by the fact he has scored 20 goals and provided eight assists for Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig in just 67 appearances in the past (Transfermarkt). However, his loan move to Leeds has been nothing other than disappointing so far.

The French striker will be hoping to find some minutes on the pitch to ensure the Yorkshire club are making the right decision in signing him ahead of a likely Premier League campaign next season.

Bielsa’s obvious liking of Patrick Bamford and trust in the former Middlesbrough man, may make those chances come few and far between though.
