Liverpool are still continuing to monitor other midfield options, despite closing in on a deal to sign Juventus’ Arthur Melo, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle.
The Lowdown: Arthur in?
Looking to address the ongoing injury crisis, Jurgen Klopp has been seeking central reinforcements for the past few days, but admitted on Wednesday night that a new signing seemed unlikely this late on.
However, Fabrizio Romano has since revealed that the Reds are set to secure a deal for 26-year-old Juve star Arthur, who has flown into England for a medical to complete a season-long loan to the Premier League.
The Latest: Liverpool continuing the search
Taking to Twitter, Doyle claimed that Liverpool are still considering alternatives as a result of the move not yet being fully finalised. He wrote:
“#LFC are looking to sign Arthur Melo on a season-long loan from Juventus. However, it isn’t a done deal just yet as the Reds continue to assess their options ahead of the transfer deadline tonight.”
The Verdict: One is enough
Whether Liverpool are looking elsewhere or not, the fact that Arthur is carrying out the necessary tasks suggests that both parties are serious about getting this deal over the line.
The Brazilian is only putting pen to paper at Anfield temporarily to provide injury cover, so there would be no point in the Reds splashing the cash on more than one new signing in the same position just to fix a short-term problem.
