Liverpool have decided to put young goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher up for sale during the summer transfer window, a fresh report has claimed.

The Lowdown: Impressive young 'keeper

Alisson has been the Reds' undisputed best 'keeper in recent years, outlining his status as arguably the best player in the world in his position currently.

The Brazilian's brilliance has made it extremely difficult for Kelleher to make his mark, however, with the Irishman often having to watch on from the substitutes' bench.

That being said, the 24-year-old has still showcased his quality a number of times, making 20 appearances in total and proving to be the penalty shootout hero in last season's EFL Cup final win over Chelsea.

With Kelleher unlikely to be Liverpool's first-choice stopper any time soon, unless Alisson suffers a long-term injury, it could be that a new challenge appeals to him this summer.

A new update certainly hints at that being the case, with his future very much now up in the air.

The Latest: Liverpool willing to sell

According to Football Insider, Liverpool have decided to put Kelleher 'up for sale' at the end of the season, with Jurgen Klopp not seeing him as part of his 'long-term plans' at Anfield.

It is stated in the report that the Reds manager is aiming to 'free up a spot in his goalkeeping department to allow younger academy players to progress.'

Kelleher's current Liverpool contract runs out in the summer of 2026, so Liverpool remain in a relatively strong bargaining position, in terms of getting a good feee for his services.

The Verdict: Good for Kelleher's development

There is no question that the nine-time capped Republic of Ireland international is a good goalkeeper - Klopp has called him 'absolutely exceptional' - but it does arguably feel as though his time at Liverpool has now run its course.

With Alisson so far ahead of him in the pecking order, it is hard to see his squad status changing any time soon, so a move away would be best for his development, as he looks to become a key man elsewhere.

Kelleher is too good to be warming the bench week in, week out, and he could be a really astute signing for a lower-ranked Premier League team, or potentially a top Championship side pushing for promotion.

If the Irishman does leave, he should always be remembered for his efforts at Wembley last season, and for filling in admirably for Alisson from time to time, but this summer is right time to let him go.
