It’s been a very good few weeks for Liverpool. The Reds are on the back of a successful season in the Premier League and in Europe, and now, Jurgen Klopp is taking steps to make his team even better.
However, whilst the Reds have made some excellent moves so far, it would only take a few poor decisions to take the shine off of the month of June.
With the World Cup this summer, in addition to the shortened summer window, Liverpool must move quickly to ensure that most of their deals are done as quickly as possible.
Thus, if the Reds go silent for the rest of the month, you could argue that the month hasn’t been quite as good as it looks on the surface.
But what, exactly, do Liverpool need to do, and what would make this month a nightmare for the club?
Jurgen Klopp Takes it Easy
Liverpool have had a strong start to the summer, there’s no doubt about that.
However, they need to ensure that they continue to build on their momentum by doing more to improve their team.
Whether that’s in the form of new signings, new contracts, or indeed, new members of staff – Klopp must continue to improve.
He can’t afford to rest in the knowledge that he’s already made his squad better.
No Defensive Rebuild
More specifically, Klopp needs to ensure that he sorts his defence out.
Fabinho will help in midfield, but there’s still the very real problem of needing to sign a partner for Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutchman needs someone more reliable alongside him, and it makes sense for Liverpool to improve things in this regard.
Leaving it late will just add more pressure to proceedings. The sooner this is done the better. This really needs to be a top priority for the club.
No Goalkeeper Decision
This is perhaps Liverpool’s biggest and most pressing issue.
Simon Mignlolet clearly isn’t good enough, whilst much has been made of Loris Karius’ recent form.
Honestly, Liverpool are being held back by their goalkeeper, and so bringing a new one in makes perfect sense.
If they don’t, the Reds could struggle to keep their form up next season.
