Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern were left stunned with the news that popular manager Garry Monk had resigned from his post, leaving the Peacocks in turmoil once again.
The Yorkshire giants have struggled to find stability for years but seemed to have made good progress with Monk’s appointment, narrowly missing out on a play-off spot this season, and the takeover completed by Andrea Radrizzani – bringing an end to the turbulent years under Massimo Cellino.
Leeds’ new Italian boss is set to inject the club with cash this summer as they look to push back into the Premier League for the first time in over a decade, but the loss of Monk is a major blow – particularly as the favourites for his services are recently-relegated Middlesbrough, who will be one of Leeds’ rivals for promotion next year.
As is customary with departing managers, Monk issued a statement but this came via social media – and Leeds fans were quick to respond with their frustrations, following a huge blow for their side.
