Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has recommended the club sign compatriot Bruno Guimaraes as his successor this summer. Casemiro announced he will not renew his contract with United after the summer’s World Cup, leaving the club with a key position to fill in the transfer market.
The Red Devils are already understood to be planning a midfield rebuild, with several top names on their shortlist. Premier League experience is said to be one key attribute shared by most players on United’s radar.
Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson are three names known to be of interest. Newcastle star man Bruno Guimaraes is also a known target, and Spanish publication AS reports that Casemiro has personally recommended his compatriot to the club.
Guimaraes has become an integral figure for the Magpies since joining from Lyon in 2022. He has made 189 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and providing 31 assists. He is currently nursing a hamstring injury that will see him miss much of the remaining season but is likely to recover in time for this summer’s World Cup.
Casemiro urges United to sign Guimaraes

The Brazil international has a deal until 2028 with Newcastle, with the club working to extend his deal and fend off interest in the player. United view the 28-year-old as “foundational” player for the future.
Guimaraes’ Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali is another player of interest as United target as many as three new signings. United have made informal contact with the representatives of both players, but Newcastle is likely to only allow one of the two to leave.
A move for either player is seen as difficult with the Magpies known to be tough negotiators. This was evidenced by the club’s British record transfer of Alexander Isak to Liverpool for $165m.
United are enjoying a resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick and will hope a Champions League finish helps attract fresh talent.
