Our Middlesbrough fans here in the Transfer Tavern really are in a state of shock at the moment after Aitor Karanka was dismissed earlier today.
Of course, they can understand why he has gone in many ways thanks to the club’s poor form and struggles in front of goal but that doesn’t make it any easier to take.
The club were led to promotion by the Spaniard last season and have certainly been organised at the back but it’s their attacking that has let them down and, ultimately, has cost Karanka his job.
Many Boro punters here in the Transfer Tavern have been quick to pay tribute to their outgoing boss, though, given what he has done for them and he, in return, has posted a classy message on his Twitter account:

A nice touch from Karanka, then, who you could never say didn’t try his hardest to bring success to the Teesiders.
