Newcastle have entered talks with Aston Villa for midfielder Jacob Ramsey. The 24-year old has two years left on his contract at Villa Park but has so far rebuffed the club’s offers for a new deal.
Villa are now understood to be open to selling the player for the right price and to satisfy Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). West Ham are also keen admirers of the player and could set be set to battle it out for the player’s signature.
Newcastle tried to sign Ramsey in 2024 and Eddie Howe remains a huge admirer of the player. The Metro has reported that Ramsey is keen on working under Eddie Howe as well, and that the prospect of Champions League football could temp the player into a move.
Ramsey has been a regular under manager Unai Emery, but not a consistent starter. He made started 29 Premier League appearances last season, starting 19. He has suffered with injuries in the past few seasons with a broken metatarsal namely sidelining him recently.
Newcastle leading the race to sign Ramsey

Ramsey is a Villa youth academy product. He has made 167 appearances for his boyhood club in all competitions, scoring 17 goals.
The transfer fee has not yet been reported but given the player’s age and experience it will likely be based around the £50m marker set by Noni Madueke’s move to Arsenal and potential teammate Anthony Elanga’s move to Newcastle.
Newcastle have been frustrated so far in the transfer window, seeing several top targets choose other clubs instead. The most recent being Benjamin Sesko who joined Manchester United despite Newcastle making the first contacts.
The same can be said for Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike, Chelsea pair Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, and Madrid defender Dean Huijsen. Compounding their misery is the fact that top goal scorer Alexander Isak is pushing for an exit, having expressed his desire to join Liverpool.
