Sometimes in football, it’s really difficult to see the silver lining when everything is going wrong. For Newcastle fans, that’s the struggle they’re going through at the moment. However, the positive side is that they have some cracking young players on their books, and young Sean Longstaff came on for his debut at Anfield on Boxing Day

The 21-year-old central midfielder has been impressing Newcastle fans for a long time with his performances in the Magpies’ U21 side, and Wednesday saw him make his first competitive appearance for the Newcastle senior team when he was a 73rd-minute substitute, replacing Kenedy with the score at 2-0 away at Anfield.
Overall the entire day was a write-off for everyone associated with Newcastle United, but when they saw Longstaff being prepped and ready to come on, it made the loss slightly more bearable. The next step for the youngster will be to work his way above the likes of Isaac Hayden and co in the pecking order, and if the Geordies play like they did on Wednesday then that won’t be tough for the impressive young midfielder.

The Geordies will be desperate for more of the same from Longstaff, and will just hope the 21-year-old keeps his place for their trip to Watford tomorrow.
