Many Nottingham Forest fans have reacted on Twitter to a video of diminutive playmaker Joao Carvalho’s skills from the 1-0 victory over Barnsley at the weekend.
In a close encounter, it was Ben Watson who broke the deadlock not long after half-time which set the Reds on their way to extending their unbeaten run to nine games.
Despite the only goal, Carvalho’s skill will surely be noted as one of the more memorable elements of the game, given that Forest only had the one shot on target, as per the BBC.
The 22-year-old featured off for left flank for Sabri Lamouchi’s side and it is just his second start of the season, having also made substitute appearances in the EFL Cup and Championship since his return from injury via Transfermarkt.
Even with a lack of match sharpness, Carvalho has still managed to net a goal and provide an assist in a combined 55 minutes upon his appearances off the bench.
In the clip, it is his ability to ease gracefully past the Tykes against their press which is so striking. Having picked up a loose ball in the centre of the park, he is fully aware that he is being chased down by two Barnsley men before dropping his shoulder and turning on the ball. A slight slip means he has to improvise with a Roulette to get the better of Alex Mowatt before moving the ball on to retain possession.
