Pochettino favourite could be set for new Tottenham contract offer – on one condition

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Erik Lamela will be able to get back to his best before too long. The Argentine has spent much of the last year on the shelf, but he returned to action a few months ago – much to the joy of our resident Lilywhites.

However, he has yet to force his way back into the Tottenham first team on a regular basis, with Mauricio Pochettino often opting for the likes of Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen instead.

Despite his lack of regular action, though, a departure does not appear to be on the cards. According to Football.London, Tottenham have ‘no intention’ of selling him – with Mauricio Pochettino clearly viewing him as an important part of his first-team team plans. 

Significantly, Tottenham do have plans to offer him a new deal, too, but only on the condition that he can prove his form and fitness between now and the end of the season.

It’s been a long road back to fitness for Lamela, but there’s no denying that he has slowly been getting back to his best. He has still only made 2 Premier League starts this season, but with 10 substitute appearances, his influence is certainly increasing week-by-week.

When fit, he’s certainly a decent option for the club. Quick, technical and fantastic with the ball at his feet, he has everything to make a name for himself in the Spurs attack.

Landlord’s Verdict

Lallana’s contract will enter its final year next season, and so a contract must be on the horizon if he is to be retained.

That being said, at present, Tottenham are right to be cautious about his long-term future in North London. It’s easy to see why Pochettino is a big fan, but he must use his head over his heart when considering this deal.
