After a terrific season last year, hopes were very high for Mauricio Pochettino and his team this season. With Champions League football and an improved squad, many in the Transfer Tavern thought that the sky was the limit for this talented group of players.
However, fast forward a few months and Tottenham are already out of the Champions League, and a Premier League title challenge looks some way off. In short, Mauricio Pochettino has a lot of work to do to turn his faltering side around.
January represents an opportune time to do that, and with a heavy run of games on the way – Mauricio Pochettino must ensure that his business is done quickly.
With that said, Pochettino must ask Levy to seal these 2 January deals next week…
Ross Barkley
Ross Barkley hasn’t enjoyed the best season this year, with Ronald Koeman recently dropping him from the starting eleven at Everton.
He has often been touted as one of England’s best young prospects, but he looks to have stagnated at Goodison Park, and in truth – our landlord thinks that he needs a change of scenery.
If there is any manager that has proven he can develop young English talent it is Mauricio Pochettino – and so a move to Tottenham could be great for both parties.
The Lilywhites could do with a bit more attacking depth, whilst they would undoubtedly jump at the chance to increase their English foundation.
He might not be a regular starter straight away, but Pochettino would offer a stable home for the Englishman as he looks to reach his potential.
Javier Hernandez
Javier Hernandez is a player that Tottenham know all too well, not least because of his exploits with Man Utd but also because of the role he played as the Lilywhites took on Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League earlier this season.
Tottenham’s striking problem is clear for all to see. Harry Kane is, undoubtedly, one of Europe’s best strikers – but beyond him, Pochettino doesn’t have many options.
Vincent Janssen has not done the business since moving, and so it appears clear that a new forward is needed.
Hernandez would fit the bill perfectly. He would likely be comfortable playing second-fiddle to Kane, whilst his goalscoring record speaks for itself.
