The Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are loving life under Mauricio Pochettino…

The Argentine boss has been a revelation at White Hart Lane in recent months, having guided the Lilywhites close to a Premier League title last season; only to fall at the last hurdle.

They have continued to look impressive this season, as Pochettino continues to work his magic – but there is one thing that Poch could improve on.

Games are, often, won and lost on the sidelines; with substitutes often coming on and making a huge impact for their respective sides.  This is something that, according to our landlord, Tottenham have not been utilising.

There are several players in their squad that are, for whatever reason, less successful from the start and more impactful from the bench; and Mauricio Pochettino must start using them in that vein.

With that said, Pochettino simply must utilise these TWO Spurs players as impact subs…

 Vincent Janssen

In the short term, Vincent Janssen as a striker simply does not look up to par.

He is still yet to score after 400 minutes of action, and against West Brom at the weekend he did not look threatening at all.

The Lilywhites cannot persist with him for an entire 90 minutes. Granted, he has forced Pochettino’s hand given Harry Kane’s injury problems – but Janssen is clearly not the solution.

A striker must score goals, and at the moment; he is not doing that. However, from the bench he might offer that dose of energy and determination towards the end of the game that could make a difference.

Working his socks off for 90 minutes isn’t doing him any favours; because he can’t get it in the back of the net. A role from the bench could finally get him off the mark…

 Son Heung-min

This is a tough one, as Son Heung-min’s form deserves a regular starting spot – but in recent weeks he has proven that he is just too good from the bench.

He delivers exactly what you want from an attacking impact sub; goals, pace, energy, stability – Son provides it all.

He is still yet to prove that he is able to be as successful for an entire 90 minutes, but his goals this season have been no fluke. He is every bit as impactful as his stats make out.

He will likely, deservedly, get a starting role with Tottenham at least in the immediate future; but he would be much more impactful from the bench.
