Puel: This is what will see Southampton reach the Europa League knockout stage

As quoted by The Daily Echo, Southampton manager Claude Puel has set the target his side need to reach points-wise in the Europa League group stages if they are to qualify, and our local Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern certainly think it’s possible.

The St Mary’s outfit host Inter Milan tonight looking for revenge for a, widely considered, undeserved 1-0 defeat at the San Siro and the French boss reckons if they win here and can reach ten points over the final two games after that, it should see them progress.

Puel said: “The qualification will be normally around ten points. Six points from three games for us and we play two games at home and one game away and it will be important to win at home. That is very very important.”

The Saints are currently second in the table behind Sparta Prague having won one, drawn one and lost one so far but with two home games from their remaining three against Inter and Hapoel Be’er Sheva respectively, they appear confident they can still progress.

Inter, meanwhile, are right at the bottom of the table on three points with their poor Serie A form clearly having a negative impact on their European campaign.

Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks the Saints undoubtedly have what it takes to defeat Inter Milan tonight, and tips the south coast side to come out victorious!
