Leeds United fans will be gutted with Saturday’s result as they bossed the game for large parts but just couldn’t make any inroads. Chris Basham’s second-half strike was enough to send Leeds crashing out the top two as Sheffield United secured all three points.
The Whites will still fancy their chances from here on in until the end of the season with a number of winnable games on the horizon. But, with the Blades now in the automatic promotion places it’s going to be even more difficult for Leeds to keep up the pressure as they’ll need to rely on Chris Wilder’s men dropping points.
Of course, promotion to the Premier League would be great for fans and it’s where Leeds belong with a stadium like Elland Road and a great history.
However, Sky Sports pundit David Prutton piled even more pressure on Leeds United recently as he highlighted the financial importance of securing promotion to the Premier League, as per the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Of course, with the club investing in players and other things to aid promotion in the current campaign, it’s obvious that the money-men would like to achieve promotion in return. But, it’s not as easy as that as a number of teams have failed after spending a lot of money, with Fulham being a prime example in the Premier League right now.
Leeds find themselves in a promising position in the race for promotion to the Premier League but it’s safe to say that losing out on promotion could be costly.
