West Ham United made a number of additions in the summer to try and help them reach their lofty ambitions.
The Hammers added Manuel Pellegrini in the summer to lead their charge of bringing European football to the London Stadium and the Chilean spent a large amount of money on players.
A number of stars joined up with the Irons in east London, with the likes of Issa Diop, Felipe Anderson and Lukasz Fabianski already playing key roles in what has proven to be a difficult season.
However, those arrivals have meant that some of the club’s former players have not had a chance to get into the first-team, which has included Reece Oxford.
“I sit on the settee and feel angry,” he told the Sunday Times.
“I don’t want to be there. I want to be on the pitch, playing against these big teams. I’ve just got to find my way.
He further added: “But if I am not playing, I hope West Ham would look kindly on my situation and let me go because there is no point being 20 and not around the first-team. Hopefully, everyone wants me to fulfil the potential they have seen.”
The Verdict:
As each matchday comes by, it increasingly looks as though Pellegrini does not have any plans for Oxford to be involved in his squad.
The teenager, who was once touted to be an exciting academy prospect and has had his chances in the senior squad in the past, is right to be considering his options and is likely to have a few destinations to choose from, with heading back to Germany being a possible outcome.
However, with still a month before the transfer window opens, he could still get a chance in the first team, although he would need to do what Grady Diangana has done and make a real impression of himself to ensure he remains within a chance of staying in Pellegrini’s thoughts.
