Replacement needed… 5 replacements West Ham should line up for Dimitri Payet

The ongoing saga surrounding Dimitri Payet at West Ham United has come to an end and their supporters here in the Tavern are seriously relieved indeed!

With news slowly filtering through that the sale of their star winger to Marseille has been confirmed, thoughts have now turned to the next chapter in the history of the club.

The French international did so much for the club but his time in East London is now over, and replacements need to be added if West Ham United are to secure as high a finish in the Premier League as possible.

The West Ham punters here at the bar seem to have some ideas as to who they’d like to bring in and we think there have been some cracking suggestions whizzing around the bar.

So with that in mind, here’s FIVE replacements for outgoing West Ham United man Dimitri Payet that Bilic needs to consider before the window closes…

Adama Traore

He’s the man who was surprisingly linked with a move to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window but with Adama Traore still at Middlesbrough, we think he’d make a cracking replacement for Payet.

The former Barcelona man has found some real form in the North East this season after a difficult spell at Aston Villa but his pace, skill and power has brought some real depth to the Boro side this campaign.

Punters here in the bar think he’d be the sort of player they need to succeed going forward.

Modou Barrow

There’s been plenty of talk surrounding Swansea winger Modou Barrow with a move away from the club this winter and he could really do a job at the Olympic Stadium moving forward.

We’ve not seen an awful lot from the Gambian this campaign but at times, he’s been devastating for the Swans, putting in some performances full of pace and power.

A different sort of player to Payet but one that would bring something different to the West Ham side entirely.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Another Swansea City man, Gylfi Sigurdsson is a player who has been fantastic at the Liberty Stadium for a handful of years now.

He’s scored six goals already this campaign and has assisted in six strikes too which is impressive considering the struggles we’ve seen from the Swans this season too.

He’s a goalscorer and someone who is deadly from set-pieces too. Who is Dimitri Payet again?

Ryad Boudebouz

Not the most well-known winger on this list, Ryad Boudebouz plays for Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier and he’s been a huge player for La Paillade this campaign.

He’s a player that loves to run at defenders, get forward and really cause full-backs problems throughout.

Seven goals this season is a good total too but we get the impression the West Ham fans here in the pub would prefer to see a more household name join the club instead.

Jack Grealish

Again, this might not be the big-money signing some of the Hammers punters here in the Tavern want to see, but there’s little doubting that Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish has some very serious potential in his locker.

He’s not a regular starter every week at Villa but plenty think that with a better attitude and bigger workrate, he could become a real star.

One that would take time to develop but in terms of potential, he could be as good as the outgoing Frenchman.
