It’s been a season of ups and downs for Slaven Bilic at West Ham, who have struggled in the Premier League at times and will fall some way short of an upper midtable finish.
Another poor run of form has left supporters frustrated here in the Transfer Tavern, which completely sums up the mood that has been around the club for a while now.
And one thing that has certainly dominated headlines at the London Stadium this season was the high-profile departure of Dimitri Payet, who returned to his homeland after growing frustrated with the progress being made at the club.
So with departures high on the list of things that have gone wrong, we have opened the history books to take a look at some Hammers players who have been allowed to move on too soon.
So with that in mind and after a chat with our Hammers-mad barman, here are the THREE West Ham players we think the club were far too quick to sell…
Rob Hall
Aged just 19 at the time, West Ham quite willingly sold a young winger called Rob Hall to Bolton Wanderers, which looks like it could be a costly move with the now 23-year-old finding some real form with Oxford United.
He’s turned into quite the player, often dazzling on the left-hand flank to get into good goalscoring positions and while chipping in with assists of his own, too.
There’s little doubt we’ll see Hall playing at an even higher level in the future, so he could he be one that got away.
Mo Diame
Mo Diame has been in and out of the Newcastle side this season and there’s plenty of Hammers fans who think the African might have been able to do a job in their side this term.
He’s a serious burly unit of a midfielder who adds real depth to the Mapgies’ midfield, so were the Hammers wrong to let him go for just £4.4m? Perhaps.
Dimitri Payet
The very recent departure of Dimitri Payet, which, at the time, sent real shockwaves around the Tavern is a still a sore point among Hammers fans.
As the circumstances of his departure emerged, it seemed fans were torn as to whether they wanted the Frenchman to stay or not.
Did West Ham get the best price for arguably their brightest player? Probably not – they might’ve been better holding out for a better deal for arguably one of their best players in modern times.
