Our Saints fans here in the Transfer Tavern are concerned by the lack of goals recently so the news that Manolo Gabbiadini is being eyed, according to The Mirror, is being welcomed.
The Saints have seen Charlie Austin pick up another long-term injury and that has left them somewhat in the lurch this season with seemingly no-one else able to take over from him.
Indeed, the club have embarked on a three game losing streak in recent weeks and so January, and the transfer window have come at an almost perfect time for Claude Puel to address things now.
The club will want to get things sorted before their season really falls apart and it seems part of the plan is to sign Gabbiadini for £17 million.
The Italian striker had been tasked with taking over from Gonzalo Higuain for Napoli this season, along with Arkadiusz Milik, but he hasn’t exactly done that so could fancy a move.
In fact he’s only got three goals in all competitions this season and so our landlord reckons that Puel should make sure he really wants him before forking out.
