Southampton fans have mixed opinions after Football Insider reported the Saints are keen on the permanent signing of right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
The defender is currently on loan at St. Mary’s from Tottenham Hotspur but has only featured once in a 2-1 loss against Burnley. Indeed, this slow campaign comes after the full-back was not favoured at Spurs under Jose Mourinho, who prefered to play Serge Aurier or Japhet Tanganga in that position after taking from Mauricio Pochettino.
Hassenhuttl currently favours playing James Ward-Prowse out of position at right wing-back but at the age of 22, there is a lot of time for Walker-Peters to grow into a solid Premier League defender.
Southampton brought in the player on loan after Cedric Soares moved to Arsenal also on a loan in January. Indeed, the Saints had to battle against Crystal Palace, who also wanted the full-back as a short term replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. (Evening Standard) so that, coupled with this latest report, suggests he’s highly-rated.
Here is what people on twitter have had to say:
We don't know how good he is, why didn't Ralph start him today or bring him on and move JWP into midfield

Could fit with Ralph and I’d Ralph wants him I’ll trust it

He’s played once from a possible 4 games… Doubt he’d want to move here 😂

Without seeing a lot of game time from him this tells me at least in training he’s the kind of player Ralph foresees succeeding in future lineups. Probably a good attitude to go along with it.

Maybe pick him then

Play him when he’s fit then 🤷♂️
