Everton have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Southampton striker Che Adams.
The Lowdown: Summer talks
It was reported during last summer’s transfer window that the Goodison Park outfit were in talks to sign the Scotland international, who was valued upwards of £25m by the Saints.
Instead, they signed Neal Maupay from Brighton and Hove Albion, who has only managed one goal in 15 games across all competitions since his arrival.
The Latest: Adams interest reignited
As per Football Insider, Everton have now ‘reignited their interest’ in signing Adams as they target two attacking signings after letting Anthony Gordon depart for Newcastle United.
The two attackers in mind are an ‘orthodox’ centre-forward who can ‘spearhead’ the attack, and a ‘pacy’ winger’, with Adams firmly on their list.
The Verdict: Avoid
It is easy to see why Everton may be interested in Adams, given that he can play both as a striker and out wide. However, the one thing they need most is goals, given that they are the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League with just 15 to their name.
As hard as Adams works, with former Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl hailing the 26-year-old’s ‘fantastic‘ attitude in the past, he is simply not a proven goalscorer at this level. He has netted just 24 times in three-and-a-half seasons in the top flight, with only four of those coming in the current campaign (Transfermarkt).
This could be a simple deal to pull off, given that Adams shares the same agent as summer arrival Dwight McNeil and the Newcastle-bound Gordon, but with only a couple of days left in the transfer window, the Toffees should be looking elsewhere for now.
