Speaking to Chronicle Live, Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell feels the north east side have gone backwards this season leaving our resident Black Cats fans desperately worried here in the Transfer Tavern.
The club has had a tough start to the season once again this year with only two points to their name, after nine games with manager David Moyes already feeling the pressure.
They did come close to earning another point on the weekend but saw Winston Reid score a last-minute winner for West Ham at the London Stadium ,to leave them five points away from safety.
And about their run of form, Rodwell had this to say: “We probably have gone a bit backwards. It’s not easy when you are chopping and changing all of the time, as players as managers, but that’s no excuse.”
Rodwell has not won a game in which he has started for over three years for the Black Cats and will be hoping to change that sooner rather than later, if they are to stay away from the Championship.
They play at home to Arsenal on Saturday and Rodwell feels a win could be possible: “But anyone can beat anyone this season if you put the hard work in. Sometimes we need a bit of luck on our side as well. If we can get a good win against Arsenal then that will lift us massively.”
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks that Sunderland are well and truly doomed this season, and thinks that Rodwell is true in what he is saying!
