According to The Daily Mail, David Moyes’ position as Sunderland manager is safe for now despite his club’s poor form this season.
The news has been cautiously welcomed by our local Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern, who do still believe the former Manchester United and Everton boss has what it takes to turn the club’s fortunes around, they just hope he does it soon.
There had been reports earlier today that he could be sacked should he fail to turn things around quickly.
Indeed, the Wearsiders have not won a single Premier League game this season and have only two points on the board at the bottom of the table, whilst their latest defeat came against Arsenal at the weekend.
In fact, it’s the joint-worst ever start ever made to a top-flight season since it’s rebranding in 1992, making these dark times at the Stadium of Light.
The Scot could find his position under threat should better results fail to materialise the report suggests, but for now, he is reportedly safe to work with the players and try to find a solution to their current woes.
The Black Cats travel to Bournemouth this weekend knowing even a win would still leave them in the Premier League’s bottom three.
