Tottenham Hotspur clinched a vital victory away at Crystal Palace on Saturday evening courtesy of Juan Foyth’s first goal for the club, but he wasn’t the only player to emerge from the game with glowing reviews.
It was another gritty Spurs performance which allowed them to take three points without blowing away their opponents, and Moussa Sissoko was at the heart of everything positive they did moving forward.
Sissoko was impressive in possession, powerful when faced with a physical challenge and willing to work back for his teammates, and his contribution has been duly noted from key figures both within and outside the club in the aftermath of proceedings.
His glowing performance represented another to add to a growing list of standout individual performances of a player who has become accustomed to regular criticism since arriving in north London in 2016.
And Sissoko has received just reward for a positive opening to the season by receiving his first call-up to the France squad since he was selected for a friendly against Germany this time last year.
Following an international exile spanning almost twelve months, it’s a landmark achievement in Sissoko’s career during a period of time in which he has shifted attitudes among the Spurs faithful.
His transformation has been one of the most noteworthy individual stories of the season thus far, and it’s fair to say he deserves his chance at international level.
