West Ham had a decent summer in the transfer market, making one or two big moves to satisfy the Hammers fans here in the Tavern before a ball had even been kicked for the 2017/18 season.
The signing of Marko Arnautovic was a big head turner for many in England, and the club followed that move up by capturing Mexican goal machine Javier Hernandez on a deal from Bayer Leverkusen.
It is this signing of former Man United man Hernandez which has got people talking the most, and our landlord thinks he could well be the man to fire West Ham to a successful campaign.
The ‘Little Pea’ is a proven striker in Europe now, with his prolific spell with United something which is remembered by Premier League fans, while his spell in Germany has yielded a goal every two games following a relatively successful loan spell with Real Madrid.
If Hernandez can rediscover this sort of form in a Hammers shirt then the club will have one of the most prolific strikers on the continent on their books.
With the added firepower and assists of fellow new boy Arnautovic and the returning Michail Antonio looking to rediscover last season’s form, West Ham could in line for a strong season if they can get everything else right.
A slow start has not exactly bred confidence around the London Stadium thus far, but Hernandez has already bagged two in three games, and Hammers fans will be hoping this is a sign of things to come for their new signing.
