Tottenham have launched a €40m bid for Como star Nico Paz that has been rejected outright. Spurs are in the market for an attacking midfielder to replace James Maddison who has suffered an ACL injury in preseason and will miss most of the 2025/26 season.
Sky Sports Italia has reported that Spurs’ bid was rejected outright as Como value Paz at €70m. The 20-year-old joined Como from Real Madrid last year and was named the best under-23 player in Serie A last season.
Sky adds that Como would consider offers of €60 million to start talks for the player, and that Real Madrid are due 50% of any transfer fee and have a series of options to re-sign the attacking midfielder.
Spurs are also reeling from the loss of their long time talisman Son Heung-Min, who signed for MLS club LAFC on Wednesday. Tottenham failed with an earlier bid for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and remain in search of attacking reinforcements.
Spurs keen on former Madrid star

Paz is Spanish born but represents Argentina at international level. He has three caps for Argentina, having made his full debut in October of 2024 in a 6-0 win over Bolivia where he recorded an assist for Lionel Messi.
He joined Como from Madrid last year, and impressed in his first season in Serie A – scoring six goals and adding eight assists. His performances have seen him claim the award for the best under-23 player in Serie A, and he is already being linked with a return to Madrid.
Como is now lead by former Arsenal talisman Cesc Fabregas. Fabregas spoke on the interest in Paz at the end of last season, stating that the player will need to play consistently if he hopes to be in the Argentina squad for the World Cup next summer.
As reported my Metro, Fabregas said this about Paz: “We don’t know anything, he’s our player and for now he’s staying with us”.
“It’s important for him to play next season, which will lead to the World Cup.”
“I don’t know if he’s ready for Real Madrid yet , we have an excellent relationship with them because we’re very interested in other players from their squad, and they know we play young players.”
“If they need us, we’re here, but for now they haven’t told us anything.”
