Speaking to Football Insider, ex-England international defender Danny Mills has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur would be open to letting Danny Rose leave for a relatively cheap fee this summer as the chairman looks set to slash the wage bill in the wake of a global pandemic.
Rose, who spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Newcastle United, found game time very hard to come by under manager Jose Mourinho – with the Portuguese gaffer seemingly preferring alternate options in that position over the 29-cap star.
Despite being a favourite under Mauricio Pochettino during his last full season with the club over 2018/2019, describing the left-back as a ‘great player’ to the Telegraph and allowing him to start the majority of matches, clearly Mourinho does not feel the same way – and it now looks like he could depart north London.

Mills, in an interview with FI, claims Daniel Levy must be ‘sensible’ and has urged the club to loosen it’s purse strings if they wish to offload Rose sooner rather than later.
Regardless, he also believes Spurs will have little to no trouble finding a suitable buyer given the notion Rose will be ‘inundated’ with offers – but clubs may wish to wait until next season when his contract expires and could leave for free.
“He could choose to sit and wait and be very very patient like we’ve seen other players do in the past,” explained Mills.
“But as long as Tottenham are sensible and Daniel Levy’s purse pockets aren’t ridiculously tight like they usually are, they may well allow him to leave for a reasonably small fee to get him off the wage bill.
“If that’s the case he will be inundated with offers. I’m absolutely sure of that.”

Valued at £14.4 million by Transfermarkt, an arguable bargain for Rose given his experience in the top flight, potential bidders could be patient and wait the extra season until his current deal runs out.
Described as a ‘top’ left-back and potential Leeds target by Danny Murphy (The Daily Mail), whether or not Tottenham do manage to sell him this summer remains to be seen, but the current situation arguably dictates the club should at least consider all offers for the 30-year-old.
