Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier is keen to sign a new deal with the club, that is according to a report from Foot Mercato.
The Ivory Coast international’s current contract at Spurs runs until 2022, but it is reported that he is ready to open negotiations with the club now as he feels revitalised under Jose Mourinho.
Aurier has been the first-choice right-back for the majority of the season following the departure of Kieran Trippier, who joined Atletico Madrid in the summer. Indeed the 27-year-old has made 24 starts across all competitions this season including 19 times in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
In fairness to him, he has actually produced some decent displays this term too. He has scored one goal and racked up an impressive seven assists (Transfermarkt) whilst also averaging 3.1 tackles and 2.7 clearances per game in the Premier League (SofaScore).
However, despite some positive displays this season, it appears that the Spurs fans are divided about the defender getting a new contract. Some feel that he has made improvements this season and should be kept on, whilst others want rid of him.
Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
Hell yeah, Serge is the goat

Would be a solid choice to rotate in that attacking fullback position. People forget that part of what made us so good between 2015-17 was that we had quality depth at full back and were able to rotate them to keep Walker and Trippier fresh and able to play at such high intensity

Please no. He needs to be sold asap. Get a decent right back who can defend and cross

I’m all for it as long as he has competition to help keep his recent performances going !!
