Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on social media after former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara slammed the north Londoners’ performance in the Carabao Cup, as they were beaten on penalties by League Two outfit Colchester United.
Mauricio Pochettino tackled the Football League competition with a vastly altered line-up from the one who were beaten 2-1 at Leicester City on Saturday, with youngsters Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga handed their senior debuts (TransferMarkt).
Teenage midfielder Oliver Skipp was also drafted into the opening line-up alongside Victor Wanyama, who was making his first start of the campaign across all competitions having made his season debut off the bench against the Foxes.
But even with experienced men like Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Ben Davies, Tottenham failed to break the Colchester goal line in regulation time, despite fashioning 19 efforts on Dean Gerken’s net, according to WhoScored.
Part of the problem for Spurs – who enjoyed 74.9% of possession – was a lack of accuracy in their strikes, as just four were marked as on target, with Alli the biggest culprit with the Englishman failing to see any of his three test Gerken.
Former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara took to Twitter late into proceedings to vent his discontent with the performance, sharing: “Are spurs winding me up.”
