Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are likely to complete the permanent transfer of midfielder Giovani Lo Celso this month (via @AlasdairGold).
The Argentinian is currently on loan at Spurs from Spanish outfit Real Betis, but Spurs have a number of clauses which enables to sign him on a permanent deal.
Indeed, the La Liga club’s CEO Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan explained in December that Spurs could either choose to sign him in January for £27.5million or wait until the summer but if they qualify for the Champions League they will have to then buy him for £35.3 million. Alternatively, if they do not make Europe’s elite then that obligation to buy will again become an option (via ABC Sevilla).
It seems that Tottenham will be taking the option of signing him in January which would save them money, with Mourinho confirming as much in his pre-match press conference ahead of their fixture against Watford.
Lo Celso has recently begun getting more minutes for Spurs, starting in three of their last five matches in all competitions and finding the back of the net against Middlesbrough last time out (Transfermarkt). It seems that he has impressed quite a few of their supporters, who are delighted with the news that the club are set to sign him permanently.
