Tottenham Hotspur: Fans split on potentially signing Mario Gotze

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been discussing potentially signing German midfielder Mario Gotze in the summer transfer window on social media recently.

The 27-year-old, who scored the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final, has announced that he will be leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2019/20 season when his contract expires, meaning that he will be available on a free transfer (Evening Standard).

He has fallen out of favour with the Bundesliga side recently and has started just five games in the league this term. That said, he is likely to have plenty of suitors given he has scored 81 goals and provided 85 assists in his club career for both Dortmund and Bayern Munich, and the fact that he is still relatively young (Transfermarkt).

According to the Express, Spurs manager Jose Mourinho was interested in Gotze in the January transfer window. Now that he is set to become available, it is a possibility that the Portuguese will go back in for his previous target.

Mourinho isn’t the only Tottenham boss to have wanted the German either. Indeed according to talkSPORT, his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino also tried to get him back in 2016.

However, it seems that a lot of their fans are split on whether or not he would be a good signing if the north London club did go in for him. Some feel that he would be a good addition, whilst others aren’t so sure…
