Mauricio Pochettino is preparing to use Toby Alderweireld as a bit-part player in the future, according to Tuttosport (via Sport Witness).
The Argentine manager is preparing to use a combination of Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth as his starting central defenders, according to the Italian publication.
As a result, Juventus are considering a move for the Belgium international, who is out of contract at the end of the season, as an ideal partner for Matthijs De Ligt.
However, the Turin-based outfit are wary of potential interest from other clubs, especially Manchester United, and may open talks with the player early to ensure they can sign him.
A move for Alderweireld has been on the cards for the past two years, especially after his reluctance to sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Belgian centre-half refused to sign a new contract at the club and was even available for just £25m in the summer transfer window (via The Metro).
He provides a better option at the back than both Sanchez and Foyth, both of whom have flattered to deceive. Alderweireld averaged more clearances, more blocks and committed fewer/same number of fouls in the Premier League and Champions League last season (via WhoScored).
His ability to deal with danger better means he is arguably a better option at the back than both Sanchez and Foyth.
Swapping £36m-rated Alderweireld for Sanchez and Foyth is a disastrous decision from the club. The experienced defender has proven to be a better player than the duo and still has plenty to offer to Spurs if he remains beyond the summer.
