After a wildly inconsistent season that saw them finish 17th in the Premier League yet somehow lift the Europa League—their first major trophy in 18 years—Tottenham Hotspur are set for a major summer overhaul.
A number of players are expected to depart. Goalkeepers Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman, as well as defender Sergio Reguilon, will leave when their contracts expire next month. Timo Werner is heading back to RB Leipzig following his loan spell, while Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s move to Marseille will be made permanent.
Club legend Son Heung-min is also attracting interest, with big-money offers reportedly being prepared by clubs in Saudi Arabia.
On the incoming front, Spurs have ambitious targets as they prepare to return to the Champions League and attempt to recover from a dismal domestic campaign. Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané has been linked, as have Crystal Palace duo Eberechi Eze and Marc Guéhi—the latter almost joined in January.
Spurs make enquiry for Nkunku
In a surprise twist, Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku has emerged as a potential target.
The Frenchman’s time at Stamford Bridge has been marred by injuries, inconsistent form, and limited minutes since his £52 million move from RB Leipzig in 2023. Now, according to TalkSPORT, Nkunku is expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with several clubs monitoring his situation.
Bayern Munich are said to be interested, but the 27-year-old is reportedly open to staying in England—with Spurs among the clubs to have made an enquiry.
Nkunku ended the 2024/25 campaign with 14 goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, though just three of those goals came in the Premier League. He was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s 4-1 Europa Conference League final win over Real Betis.
Speaking earlier this season, Chelsea full-back Malo Gusto praised Nkunku’s quality despite his struggles to secure a starting spot.
“He’s one of my closest guys,” Gusto said. “Christo is a top player, everyone knows. I don’t know what I can say about him now. He tries to give his best. After is the coach’s choice.”
Whether or not Tottenham proceed with a formal bid may depend on which version of Nkunku they believe they can get. The Leipzig star who was named Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021/22 could transform their attack. But the injury-prone version seen at Chelsea could prove an expensive gamble—with the Blues reportedly demanding close to £50 million.
