In the summer of 2016, Birmingham signed Sheffield United forward Che Adams after considerable transfer speculation surrounding his future at United.
In his last season with Sheffield, Adams had been switched between a winger and a striker and had only scored 11 goals. He had constantly shown flashes of potential but had never quite performed consistently enough with Sheffield.
The young striker had tonnes of potential and it seems as though the Birmingham City fans were excited by his arrival.

The forward scored his first goal for the club against Wolves and although it should’ve been a game to remember for the forward, Birmingham put in a terrible performance and lost 3-1.
Despite Birmingham having a tough season, which resulted in Gary Rowett leaving the club, Adams had a fairly solid first year with the club. He scored seven goals in 40 appearances in the league, while also grabbing six assists. Considering the turmoil that surrounded the club, Adams had a good first season and as a result, he won the ‘Young Player of the Year’ award.
In his second year at the club, the forward struggled with injuries and could only score five goals during the season. Despite that and amid transfer speculation, particularly from his former manager Gary Rowett, Birmingham signed the forward to a new long-term deal last year.
After a fairly inconsistent year last season, this season Adams is in the form of life. In tandem with Lukas Jutkiewicz, the forward has formed a potent strike partnership. Despite a recent Second City Derby loss to Aston Villa recently, Adams has been crucial in Birmingham’s reasonable form this year.
So far this season, he’s scored eight goals in 17 games and his form is critical in Birmingham’s chances of reaching the playoffs. Unfortunately for The Blues, they are now three points off their arch rivals in eighth but with Adams up front, they could still reach the playoffs. It seems as though the fans were right to be excited by his arrival two years ago.
