West Bromwich Albion: Fans name Alan Pardew as their worst-ever Baggies manager

Plenty of West Brom fans were provoked into reaction after Twitter account @BaggiesHQ raised the question of whether Pepe Mel was the club’s worst-ever manager, a sentiment with which many respondents disagreed.

Instead, many Albion supporters cited Alan Pardew as their pick for that unenviable title, with the recently-deposed manager of ADO Den Haag enduring a miserable four-month spell at The Hawthorns during the ill-fated 2017/18 season.

The 58-year-old came in for Tony Pulis in November 2017 after a 10-game winless run left the Baggies just above the Premier League drop zone (as per BBC). Far from having the desired consequences, though, the team’s fortunes deteriorated under Pardew, who won only three of his 21 matches in charge and was sacked in early April 2018 after a run of eight successive defeats left them 10 points adrift of top-flight safety (as per BBC).

His time at the club was also overshadowed by an incident in Barcelona which saw four West Brom players accused of stealing a taxi during a team bonding trip, with Pardew saying that the quartet “let themselves down, let the club down and let me down”. [via talkSPORT]

These Baggies fans on Twitter all made a case for the 58-year-old being their pick as the worst manager in Albion’s history, with one supporter labelling him an “absolute fraud“:

Absolutely not. Pardew has this title – hopefully forever

Not a chance. Alan pardew by a country mile 😏

— mark cooper (@scooter1975) May 6, 2020

No Pardew by far the worst Manager, we have ever had, had a half decent squad, that had finished 10th the season before, and had absolutely no idea. Irvine and Buckley were very poor as well, and not to mention Gould

— Stephen Daly (@Stephen22133593) May 6, 2020

Pardew wins by an absolute country mile, as if a thought he would actually be decent, car crash from start to finish 😩

Pardew without question. An absolute fraud that’s got away with murder for years

— Matt (@Matt_Slater_98) May 6, 2020

Pardew.

End off.

— Barcelo Steve. (@stevebaggie1) May 6, 2020

Pardew all day long, he never got them together after taking over, no peak or honeymoon period. Flat out PANTS.

West Brom fans, do you think Pardew was the club’s managerial nadir or would you give that unwanted title to someone else? Comment below with your views!
